Chiropractic is a complementary and alternative health care profession with the purpose of diagnosing and treating mechanical disorders of the spine and musculoskeletal system with the intention of affecting the nervous system and improving health. It is based on the premise that a spinal joint dysfunction can interfere with the nervous system and result in many different conditions of diminished health. A specific adjustment to the area of dysfunction is used to restore motion and function to the area. Chiropractic was founded in 1895 by Daniel David Palmer, based on his assertion that 95% of all health problems could be prevented or treated using adjustments of the spine (spinal adjustments), and 5% by adjustment of other joints, to correct what he termed vertebral subluxations. The main technique in today's chiropractic treatment is the adjustment. Its use has been documented from the time of the ancient Egyptians. While some chiropractors adhere strictly to the use of only the adjustment in their treatment protocols, Dr. Daniel J Friedline utilizes a broad range of methods to treat musculoskeletal pain and injuries including: massage, trigger point therapy, strength training, stretching, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, and traction. Patients from all walks of life have found chiropractic care effective in treating their musculoskeletal issues. In fact many professional teams have chiropractors on staff to help treat injuries and maintain their athlete's high level of performance. At this day and age we are using our bodies in ways that stress our musculoskeletal system day in and day out, and we adapt our treatment to our patients to keep them out of pain and functioning at an optimal level. The Center for Advanced Bodywork maintains a professional relationship with many medical specialists in the area and when indicated will refer you to the appropriate specialists in a professional and efficient manner.
